Randy Brock, candidate for lieutenant governor, said today:
“The news of an alleged ‘Ponzi-like’ scheme linked to Jay Peak, Q Burke Resorts and ANC Bio is very troubling. The intent of the EB-5 investment was to create economic development and jobs in a struggling region of Vermont. It is irresponsible for Governor Shumlin to state that projects in Newport will not happen now.
“Newport has become an unwilling victim of what appears to be a poorly-monitored federal and state program. The city shouldn’t be left with a hole in its downtown, and no hope to fix it. Now is the time to examine what has been accomplished and what still needs to be done. The last thing the State of Vermont should do now is to abandon Newport and the Northeast Kingdom. This is a man-made disaster. But as with Tropical Storm Irene, damage has been done to an entire region. We must help.
