Burke McHugh talks to NextGen business leaders in Billings on Tuesday. McHugh was on video conference call from Denver.
A new brewery, movie theater and bowling alley would be likely pieces of the proposed $120 million One Big Sky Centerin downtown Billings, but the complex project faces big hurdles, developers said Tuesday in a video conference in Billings.
Skip Ahern and Burke McHugh of MontDevCo LLC told about 60 young professionals they are working on commitments for tenants to fill retail and office space and a brand for a proposed hotel and convention center.
They said they plan to appear before the Billings City Council on Monday to discuss the project financing, which is a mix of private equity, up to $30 million in public tax-increment financing, bank loans and other sources.
“This would be a large, complex project if it were in New York, Los Angeles or Denver. … To pull this off in Billings will take a lot of hard work, effort and, frankly, some good luck,” Ahern said in the conference call from Denver, where he lives.
