A key player in a proposed multi-million-dollar fish farm south of Brookings was recently named as a debtor in several judgments worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Timothy Burns of Brookings was the chief operating officer for Global Aquaponics, which announced last year that it was building a 40-tank system to produce fish, fruits and vegetables. A groundbreaking on land south of Brookings took place last summer, but since then, no work has occurred.
Global Aquaponics sought investors in the project through a private equity offering that aimed to raise about $5.3 million. The investments were sold by individual units worth $25,000 each, and the private equity offering projected the sale of 215 units.
